Executive Producer
Kathy Knauer has been the executive producer for The Allegheny Front since 1995. She is responsible for overseeing the news operations, developing collaborations with other news organizations and fundraising. She transformed the program from an all-volunteer effort into an award-winning professional endeavor. Today, Kathy leads a team of award-winning journalists who report on environmental stories that impact the lives of the people in our region.
Until 2002, Kathy worked as an environmental scientist working on water quality issues. She was an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh and a research associate at Carnegie Mellon University, STUDIO for Creative Inquiry.
She has a Master of Science degree in Environmental Health from the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh, which honored her in 2020 with a Distinguished Alumni Award for Teaching and Dissemination for outstanding contributions to the field of public health. She was also honored as a Science Communicator by the 2015 Carnegie Science Awards, recognizing outstanding science and technology achievements in western Pennsylvania.
