A coal company is contesting zoning of 950 acres of land in Forward Township where it wants to build a new coal mine. The land is zoned for residential and conservation use.

Boomba Nishikawa (any pronouns) is an intern for the summer of 2021 through the Pittsburgh Media Partnership. Boomba grew up outside of Chicago and moved to Pittsburgh in 2013. They are currently an intern at The Allegheny Front through the Pittsburgh Media Project and are going into their second year at the University of Toronto in the fall studying Critical Studies in Equity and Solidarity with a minor in Asian Canadian Studies. Boomba is passionate about environmental justice and hopes through their studies and efforts can impact the world in a positive way.
